Intro to Structural Determinants of Health and Power

Members of the UW Population Health Institute’s County Health Rankings and Roadmaps team – Senior Health Equity Fellow Jonathan Heller and Narrative Infrastructure Team Leader Angela Acker – led this Immersion session for all governmental public health staff and allied partners.

Content from this Immersion may be of particular interest to those who want to learn more about what creates the community conditions that impact health – the written and unwritten rules and power dynamics that result in some communities having what they need to thrive and others not having what they need.

Through viewing this session, participants will have an opportunity to:

  • gain a shared understanding of the concepts of Structural Determinants of Health and Power.
  • practice translation and applications of these concepts in the current public health landscape.
  • consider strategies to use in their roles and/or organizations to influence the Structural Determinants of Health.
