UWPHI Immersions: Introduction to Structural Determinants of Health and Power

Please register for the next virtual Public Health Infrastructure Grant (PHIG) Immersion on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 from 9:30am – 12pm CST!

All governmental public health staff and allied partners are invited to join the February Immersion led by members of the UW Population Health Institute’s (UWPHI) County Health Rankings and Roadmaps team – Senior Health Equity Fellow Jonathan Heller and Narrative Infrastructure Team Leader Angela Acker.

Content may be of particular interest to those who want to learn more about what creates the community conditions that impact health – the written and unwritten rules and power dynamics that result in some communities having what they need to thrive and others not having what they need.

In this highly interactive session, participants will:

  • gain a shared understanding of the concepts of Structural Determinants of Health and Power.
  • practice translation and applications of these concepts in the current public health landscape.
  • consider strategies to use in their roles and/or organizations to influence the Structural Determinants of Health.

Foundational Capabilities addressed in this Immersion include Community Partnership Development, Equity, Organizational Competencies, and Policy Development and Support. This session will be recorded and will be shared along with follow-up materials.
