Wisconsin Discusses: Operationalizing Policy Priorities in Your Community

Building upon themes from the May PHIG Spotlight, this Wisconsin Discusses highlights opportunities for local and tribal health departments to engage with the UW Population Health Institute to understand the feasibility, facilitators, and barriers in policy engagement at local tribal health departments.

Presenters Maddie Roberts, Public Health Policy Specialist with Rock County Public Health, and Wajiha Akhtar, Director of UWPHI’s Workforce Development Pathways unit, share a brief summary of the May Spotlight presentation on Rock County’s public health policy infrastructure and support participants in their own local policy engagement priorities by leading a discussion.

Participants in this session will learn how to:

  • Align and/or integrate the State Health Assessment and Improvement Plan priorities with local efforts, including the Community Health Assessment and Improvement Plan where relevant
  • Support infrastructure needed to facilitate policy, systems, and environmental change work
  • Interpret evidence to support decision-making
  • Communicate about public health with elected officials
