Katarina GrandeKatarina Grande, MPH*
Public Health Supervisor of Epidemiology & Data Science, Public Health Madison & Dane County

Katarina Grande is a governmental public health practitioner currently leading the Epidemiology & Data Science team at the local health department in Madison, Wisconsin. Seeking to drive data to action, her focus on applied public health combines the power of data analysis with data communication to impact decision-making. Her 15-year public health career focuses have included HIV epidemiology, community health, maternal & child health, COVID, communicable disease, and program management—all with a health equity and data justice lens. Globally, Katarina has worked with CDC, PEPFAR, and USAID; locally she has worked for city, county, and state governmental public health departments. She holds a BS in journalism and integrative biology (zoology) from University of Wisconsin-Madison and an MPH from University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. Katarina is an alum of the Wisconsin Population Health Service Fellowship, where she was dual-placed with the City of Milwaukee Health Department and the Center for Urban Population Health.

 

Bailey MurphBailey Murph, MPH*
Director of the Office of Health Equity, Wisconsin Department of Health Services

Bailey Murph is the Director of the Office of Health Equity at the Wisconsin Department of Health Services. Prior to this position, Bailey served as Deputy Commissioner of Policy, Innovation, & Engagement at the City of Milwaukee Health Department. Across these roles, Bailey has led initiatives developing public health policy, using data to inform decision making, elevating community presence, and building capacity to advance health equity. Bailey holds a Masters of Public Health degree from University of Wisconsin Milwaukee Zilber School of Public Health and she is an alumna of the Graduate Education Diversity Internship of the American Evaluation Association and the Wisconsin Population Health Service Fellowship.

 

 

Margarita Northrop

Margarita Northrop, MPH, MIPA*
State Health Plan Coordinator, Wisconsin Department of Health Services, Office of Policy and Practice Alignment

Margarita Northrop (she/her), MPH, MIPA, is the State Health Plan Coordinator at the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, Office of Policy and Practice Alignment (OPPA). Much of her role evolves around facilitating partner engagement in the State Health Assessment and leading the implementation of the State Health Improvement Plan. She earned her Master of Public Health degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health and Master of International Public Affairs at the UW LaFollette School of Public Affairs. Margarita also served as a UW Population Health Service Fellow prior to permanently joining the DHS team and as a preceptor while in her OPPA role. Margarita has a background in social, economic and public health policy as well as community engagement and data-driven decision making. Her areas of focus are social determinants of health; health equity; systems and environmental change; and bridging social, economic and public health policy with community experiences.

 

Tom OliverTom Oliver, PhD, MHA
Professor of Population Health Sciences, University of Wisconsin Madison School of Medicine and Public Health

Thomas R. Oliver is a Professor of Population Health Sciences at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. He has served as Director of the UW Master of Public Health program and the Wisconsin Center for Public Health Education and Training and is a faculty affiliate with the Robert M. La Follette School of Public Affairs. Professor Oliver graduated from Stanford University with a bachelor’s degree in Human Biology. He received a master’s degree in Health Administration from Duke University and master’s and doctoral degrees in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the Pew Health Policy Program at the University of California, San Francisco. Before coming to Wisconsin, he taught at the University of Maryland and Johns Hopkins University. Professor Oliver’s research examines critical issues in health policy, politics, and system reform. His current work includes studies of the role of intersectoral governance, leadership and partnerships to stimulate and guide population health improvement, key issues in US health policy, and comparative analysis of health policies in the US and European Union.

 

Marisa StanleyMarisa Stanley, MPH*
Assistant Director, Eau Claire City-County Health Department

Marisa Stanley, MPH is the Assistant Director for the Eau Claire-City County Health Department and responsible for leadership and management of Population Health Services which includes Divisions related to Communicable Disease Prevention/Control, Environmental Inspection, Environmental Sciences/Lab, Community Health Promotion, and Healthy Beginnings. Before coming to Eau Claire, Marisa was the Infectious Disease Epidemiologist for the City of Milwaukee Health Department for 5 years and managed the Communicable Disease Unit and Immunization Program for the City of Milwaukee.  Marisa was also an epidemiologist with the AIDS/HIV Program for the Wisconsin Division of Public Health after completing a Wisconsin Population Health Service Fellowship with the Bureau of Communicable Diseases at the Wisconsin Division of Public Health and the Great Lakes Inter-Tribal Epidemiology Center in Lac du Flambeau, WI. Marisa received her Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and a Master of Public Health in Epidemiology from the University of Minnesota.

 

Michael StevensonMichael Stevenson, MPH
Co-Director of County Health Rankings & Roadmap, University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute

Michael Stevenson is Co-Director at County Health Rankings & Roadmaps (CHR&R). This team’s work includes What Works for Health (WWFH), a searchable online database that provides community leaders, coalitions, and others with promising strategies to respond effectively to their health priorities. In WWFH, analysts systematically assess, summarize, and rate evidence for policies and programs that can affect health behaviors, social & economic factors, the physical environment, and clinical care. Prior to joining CHR&R, Michael was the Director of Health Strategy at the City of Milwaukee Health Department where he led large-scale planning efforts, advised on public health policy, and analyzed public health data. He has also worked as a Research Associate at a human services research and evaluation organization. Michael holds a master’s degree in public health from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s Zilber School of Public Health and a bachelor’s degree from Wartburg College.

 

Dr. Geof SwainGeoffrey Swain, MD, MPH
Emeritus Professor, UW Department of Family Medicine and Community Health

Geoffrey Swain served for over 15 years as an Associate Professor / Professor in Family Medicine and Community Health at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health, and for 14 years prior to that as a faculty member at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Dr. Swain also served for 26 years as Medical Director for the City of Milwaukee Health Department, and before that practiced Family Medicine as a physician and as a residency program faculty member. Geof is the Founding Director of the Wisconsin Center of Health Equity. He continues to support the Wisconsin Population Health Service Fellowship Program, and in 2022 served as President of the Wisconsin Public Health Association (WPHA), which named him the 2020 recipient of their “Carol Graham Lifetime Achievement Award”.
