Mary Wienkers

Biography

Mary Wienkers is the Maternal Mortality Review Program Lead at the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) contracted through UW–Madison’s Population Health Institute. The MMR program works to identify and review pregnancy-associated deaths; identify drivers of maternal mortality and pregnancy complications, as well as associated disparities; propose recommendations that promote change and prevention; and guide implementation of these interventions in communities where the need is greatest.

Mary holds a masters degree in Public Health Policy and Administration and a certificate in Maternal and Child Health from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s Zilber College of Public Health. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from UW–Madison. Prior to joining the Maternal Mortality Review program, Mary worked for many years in marketing, advertising, and communications. She is passionate about health equity, reproductive justice, health communication, and health in all policies.
