Jennifer Tranmer is the Communications Specialist for the Opioid Harm Prevention Program at the Wisconsin Department of Health Services. She is assigned to the Overdose Data to Action (OD2A) grant through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; she was initially hired in 2016 as part of the Prescription Drug Overdose: Prevention for State grant. As part of this team, Jennifer supports the efforts at the Department of Health Services to prevent overdose death, support harm and stigma reduction efforts, and reduce the harms associated with substance use disorders. She is part of a comprehensive effort to address this ever-evolving epidemic in the state of Wisconsin. She provides communications and programming support to her team as well as partners within and outside of DHS.
Jennifer’s background in journalism and design and her interests in health care and public health drove her to accept this position. She has a master’s in public affairs journalism from Columbia College in Chicago and a bachelor’s degree from Beloit College. She lives with her husband and their dog in Cottage Grove. She enjoys hiking, traveling, writing, long walks, gardening and propagating plants, baking, and spending time with family.
