We know that many conditions — like income, safe housing and education — shape how long and how well people live. For over a decade, County Health Rankings & Roadmaps (CHRR) has measured these conditions through data and our model of health. But how are these conditions created? And who creates them? The University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute (UWPHI) Model of Health provides a framework to understand how societal rules and power shape these conditions.
In this training, we’ll explore the new UWPHI Model of Health using CHRR data and strategies. Learn how to navigate CHRR tools and resources and practice applying the UWPHI model of health to understand how upstream approaches can create lasting change. We’ll also have a public health communications skill-builder.
After attending this training, participants will be able to:
- describe the components of the UWPHI model of health and apply the model to a case example.
- navigate the County Health Rankings website, accessing data and strategies relevant to their interests.
- translate data and communicate relevant public health information to various audiences.
