Wisconsin’s Commercial Tobacco Prevention and Treatment Program (CTPTP) and its statewide partners place shared leadership, as well as inclusive planning and resource development, at the center of their work. The movement leans heavily into building strong partnerships and maintaining consistent communication to achieve equitable processes and results.
In the December Immersion, we will hear from CTPTP communications staff about their comprehensive, narrative-based approach to their work, and tips for integrating and scaling these strategies to uplift community voices. We will also highlight two case studies of shared power and leadership in action, including a locally-led project to elevate the voices of youth impacted by vaping and the evolution of longstanding work around menthol cigarettes that started in Milwaukee and gained partners throughout the state. The session will conclude with an opportunity to engage in a discussion around communications collaboration with our presenters.
By the end of this Immersion, attendees will be able to:
- Identify the partners involved in Wisconsin’s commercial tobacco movement and their individual and collective roles in reducing harm from commercial tobacco.
- Discuss how a team approach to communications can promote collaboration and relationship-building and center the reduction of barriers to good health outcomes.
- Examine how shared power and leadership contribute to successful communications collaborations and innovative public health work in a range of Wisconsin communities.
- Compare the methods and tools needed to scale the strategies discussed to communications efforts in health departments or community organizations of any size.
