Deliberative Inquiry is a strategy for building consensus through dialogue that clarifies shared values and identifies community supported solutions to complex issues. This session introduces Deliberative Inquiry and UW Extension’s role in supporting community engagement within the Community Health Assessment and Improvement Plan (CHA/CHIP) process.

Participants will hear highlights from Clark and Wood County Health Departments. A panel of local health department staff and health care partners will discuss their collaboration experiences, how they used dialogue results, and approaches to reporting back to participants. The panel will explore how this method differs from other engagement methods, shifts in perspectives on shared community values, and confidence in civil dialogue. Extension staff will share lessons learned, practical considerations, and strategies for integrating deliberative dialogue into CHA/CHIP work.

The session concludes with an overview of available resources and interactive Q&A. While the presentation on Deliberative Inquiry will be recorded for archival viewing, the panel discussion will not be recorded.
