In this Spotlight, Trempealeau County Public Health Department staff will share how Public Health Infrastructure Grant funding supported the creation of a bilingual public health technician position that enhanced department operations, strengthened trust, and improved communication with the county’s growing Latino community, which now represents 13% of the county’s population. This investment in infrastructure decreased language barriers, advanced health equity, reduced delays, and allowed staff to work more efficiently. Above all, it gives the department the opportunity to effectively serve more residents.

The PHIG Spotlight Series is a platform for Wisconsin public health departments to share their experiences, lessons learned, and barriers encountered while implementing programs or policies. The goal is to foster shared learning, collaboration, and innovation across public health agencies.
