Dr. Marjory Givens, PHI Associate Director, gave a presentation at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) titled “Harnessing Data for Research on Structural Racism” in May of 2022. During her presentation, Dr. Givens asks structural racism researchers to consider their research inquiries and applicable disciplinary knowledge in light of following question: Who decides what matters and what is measurable?
She also stresses that approaches and methods that portray systemic features of structural racism are particularly important within a data system that is structurally racist.
