Joe Hinton is an Action Learning Coach with the County Health Rankings & Roadmaps (CHR&R) program based in Chicago, IL. Joe’s role is to provide strategic guidance to communities who wish to put the County Health Rankings into action to improve health and advance equity. He is part of a team that develops online tools to connect communities to evidence-informed strategies and community change resources, fosters peer learning and connections, delivers knowledge and skill building sessions, and recognizes and celebrates health improvement.

Joe has over 10 years of experience in education, curriculum development, adult education and virtual and non-virtual community development. Prior to joining the CHR&R team, Joe served as an Assistant Professor of Geography and department co-chairperson for the Social and Applied Sciences Department at Harold Washington College, one of the City Colleges of Chicago. He previously served the State of Illinois, Morton College and the Center for Economic Progress in curriculum development, grant management and program management capacities. He has personal and professional interests in how rural and urban spaces can be intentionally designed through an equity lens.

Joe completed his Bachelor of Arts in History with secondary education certification from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Joe then received his Master of Arts in Geography at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, with research interests in rural land use, greenspace development, community development, and community decision making processes. Additionally, he completed post-graduate Geographic Information Systems certification at Northeastern Illinois University.
