Dr. Amanda Gatewood is the Director of Special Operations at County Health Rankings & Roadmaps, a collaboration of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) and the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute (UWPHI).

Dr. Gatewood is a public health epidemiologist and implementation scientist with particular interest in:
• community-based research and evaluation to influence the social determinants of health,
• social justice and community power building, and
• translational research that impacts health and social policy.

Dr. Gatewood’s prior research investigated how social service programs work in partnership with families and the impact these programs have on communities, families, and social services workers.

Before joining UWPHI, Dr. Gatewood supported the translation of research to policy and action in the Office of Planning, Research, and Evaluation in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as a AAAS/Society for Research in Child Development Fellow. She also worked as an epidemiologist for the Kentucky and Maryland Departments of Health and as a Senior Research Coordinator for Johns Hopkins University.

Dr. Gatewood completed a Master’s in Public Health at the University of California, Berkeley and a PhD at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
