Penny Black is in her first year of the PhD in Population Health Sciences Program. Ms. Black holds a Master of Science Degree in Health Science from California State University, Long Beach. Her professional experience includes over ten years as a program evaluator and research analyst in alcohol and other drug prevention. Ms. Black has also spent considerable time overseas in South Africa and China working on HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis issues and is pursuing the Global Health Certificate concurrently with her PhD. Currently, Ms. Black is working as a project assistant with the Population Health Institute’s Evaluation Team. She is primarily interested in health surveillance systems, monitoring and evaluation, and population-level health determinants and outcomes.
